Public Information Officer, PCSO

The Public Information Officer acts as a point of contact between the office and local, state and national media. Duties include media relations and the development of print, audio and video news items to be released to the public. The Public Information Officer advises management of community relations’ projects and activities and answer questions concerning the Sheriff’s Office from the public, media, employees and other jurisdictions.

Elias has an extensive media background and is a decorated graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, where he earned his degree in broadcast journalism.  Elias has worked not only in the Phoenix media market as a reporter but also in his home state of Iowa.

Stolen PCSO Weapons

On 05-09-12, around 4:30 a.m., an unknown person(s) broke in to an unmarked Pinal County Sheriff’s Office vehicle parked at a residential address in Casa Grande and stole the following items:

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce a very special guest will speak at the 2012 Peace Officers Memorial Service outside the Sheriff’s Office this Thursday, May 10th.

Kent Terry, brother of the late Brian Terry, will serve as the guest speaker during the service.

Brian Terry, a US Boarder Patrol Agent, was killed in the line of duty after he and fellow Border Patrol agents with the elite tactical BORTAC team were engaged while patrolling Peck Canyon, in Pima County, Arizona; eleven miles from the Mexican border.

 

Detectives with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office are looking into a fatal fall that claimed the life of a female hiker from Washington State Wednesday morning.

On May 2, 2012, at approximately 11:00 a.m. PCSO dispatch received a call from a man who believed his wife had died after falling from a cliff face along Massacre Trail in the Superstition Mountains.

PCSO units responded along with Southwest Ambulance, Mesa Fire Department, Apache Junction Fire Department and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office to help locate the woman.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office received an award this week from the Department of Defense‐Defense Logistics Agency for “Superior Achievement in Fiscal Stewardship.

PCSO has been an active partner of the United States Military Defense Logistics Agency, “1033 Program” since August of 2010. Since that time period, our office has acquired over $7,000,000.00 worth of surplus and demilitarized equipment.  According to the Department of Defense and Logistics the cost savings to tax payers alone in Pinal County during 2011 was $3,792,425.04.

PCSO Asks For Your Help

In response to recent incidents involving criminal activity in the San Tan Valley and Copper mine areas, I'm reaching out to you to:

1) Acknowledge the ongoing problem that has escalated in recent months and

2) Provide you with an official PCSO response.

A juvenile suspect has been arrested and charged in a string of arson cases, as well as one of the victims for growing marijuana.

On 4/12/2012, PCSO deputies responded to three separate emergencies involving active fires during the early morning hours within city limits.

Pinal County Sex Offender Update

In compliance with PCSO policy to alert the media and members of the public when a registered sex offender moves into the county, or changes address - here is the latest update.

Convicted in 1989 for indecent exposure, had over 200 female victims.  Convicted in 1999 for failure to register.

An illegal immigrant from Mexico is in PCSO custody following a vehicle pursuit Monday evening.  On 4/23/2012, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a Pinal County Sheriff Office deputy on patrol heading eastbound near Meadow View and Green Road’s observed a white, 2003 Ford F‐150 pickup traveling westbound at a high rate of speed.

The deputy turned around to conduct a traffic stop at Osa and Javelina Roads.  After the deputy activated his emergency lights, the truck accelerated away from the deputy at a high rate of speed.

An officer with the Arizona Department of Corrections has been arrested and charged after multiple images of child pornography were discovered on his personal computer.

A missing family has been located in a remote canyon and returned home after their vehicle was discovered abandoned.

On 4/15/2012 a PCSO deputy on patrol near the junction of Redington and River Roads located a vacant maroon 2000 Saturn sedan on the shoulder of the road. A check of the vehicle showed it was registered to a 34‐year‐old female from San Manuel, but the license plate was suspended. Because the vehicle was partially protruding the roadway, the deputy called to have the car towed.
