Governor Brewer to Sign Proclamation Supporting Regional Flood Control Project on Lower Santa Cruz River Project

WHAT:

Governor Janice K. Brewer will give remarks and sign a Proclamation supporting a federal flood control project to protect the region from severe flooding along the Lower Santa Cruz River.  The watershed, encompassing thousands of square miles, runs through the heart of Arizona’s fastest growing region and connects its two largest metropolitan areas.  A major flood today could destroy critical infrastructure, residential areas, schools, businesses and agriculture, and result in billions of dollars in damage.

WHERE:

City of Casa Grande Council Chambers, 510 E. Florence Blvd., Casa Grande, Arizona (take I-10 to Florence Blvd. exit and go west approximately 3.5 miles. City Hall is a white building on right).  Parking is available on east side of building.

WHEN:
Thursday, February 9, from 12:15pm – 1:00pm (lunch will be served at approximately 1:00pm on the patio following the signing ceremony).

VISUALS:
A short video will be shown and enlarged photos will be set out on easels.

Heather Murphy joined the Pinal County staff in September 2007 as Director of Communications and Public Affairs. Previously, she served nearly eight years managing communications for the Arizona Corporation Commission, a state regulatory agency. Her professional career has involved work with corporations, non-profits and government. She holds several professional certifications in emergency response and recovery. Following Hurricane Katrina, she took a brief leave of absence from the state to assist FEMA and the state of Louisiana with the launch of the Find Family National Call Center. There she gained valuable real-world crisis communications experience. Murphy is a graduate of the national Emergency Management Institute’s Advanced Public Information Officer training and is certified instructor for the basic PIO course offered by the Arizona Division of Emergency Management. In her leisure time, she is an avid photographer and serves on the board of a statewide pet rescue organization.
